Field performance of wallpaper glue is not determined by adhesive alone. Drywall, skim coat, old paint, concrete, primer, wallcovering backing and ambient conditions form one installation system. A representative sample panel identifies excessive absorption, contamination, primer mismatch or insufficient working time before full installation.
Select a representative substrate
Use the actual project substrate or a test board that matches material, skim coat, coating and cure condition. Record substrate type, completion date, repairs, surface strength and visible contamination. A new smooth board cannot represent a wall with old paint, patched joints or variable absorption.
Check cleanliness and condition before work
Look for dust, oil, release agent, chalking, loose layers and moisture evidence. Whether moisture or other field testing is required depends on the wall system, project requirements and material guidance. A sample does not approve every wall area; it validates the selected preparation process at that location.
Include primer and wallpaper in the system
Record primer or sealer product, lot, dilution, application and drying time and use the real wallpaper grade and lot. Backings differ in absorption, dimensional behavior and breathability, so a glue-only trial cannot prove complete compatibility. Match all material revisions in the panel record.
Mix and install by the planned field method
Use the intended water, ratio, addition order, mixing and rest time. Record application tool, paste location, waiting time and ambient conditions. Observe initial grab, slip, adjustment, edges and seams. Any deviation from the TDS or wallpaper instruction must be documented rather than becoming an assumed standard.
Inspect after drying and approve the record
Check the panel after application and again after adequate drying for bubbles, edge lift, seams, staining, surface damage and any agreed removal test. The installer, project team or designated authority should confirm scope and conclusion.
